Chalong Bay is a busy bay and the designated arrival port for clearing Phuket Immigration, Customs and Harbour Master. There is a long jetty for both commercial and private boat traffic, a small marina built by local contractors and mostly full of Thai commercial vessels with the odd yacht. The anchorage is good holding in 3-7 metres. Be aware of locally placed moorings with orange buoys as they have large concrete block and have become a danger to vessels in the bay and approaches due to them being laid in to shallow water. Additional to that be careful of the myriad of privately laid moorings for long mooring ropes floating on the surface. Chalong is a good provisioning location with a number of small 24 hour supermarkets, a large well stocked Villa Mart supermarket with an excellent selection of western goods, a few Thai fresh markets and a number of restaurants catering for every taste. There is also a wide selection of accommodation ashore to cater for all levels of budget. Ao Chalong Yacht Club is also located in Chalong Bay, with a small floating jetty, dinghy ramp, excellent club house with a NZ chef, toilets and showers, well stocked bar. A great place for information and to dine GPS location is 70 49'38.2N 980 20'53.6E. For further details see www.acyc.asia
